Kale: The Almighty

Kale has been one of my go to foods for the last few months and trying to find  recipes that subdue its powerful flavor has been a bit challenge.  This recipe I found on Pinterest has really hit the mark for my entire family which includes two small kids.   It’s extremely enjoyable to watch kids eating a superfood like kale.  Try it because it does not disappoint!

Holiday

We will be taking a little “holiday” of our own and will be back with regular blog posts the week of January 7th.  Enjoy all the wonderful things this season has to offer.

Ready To Go

Now we definitely don’t mean to put the pressure on but can you believe that there are just 11 shopping days left until Christmas! Yikes!  We continue to have a busy holiday season and are selling out of items quickly.  So today we’ve compiled a list of our items that are in stock and ready to go.

Small Business Saturday

Black Friday.  Black Friday.  Black Friday.  It seems to come barreling at us full speed, while threatening the Christmas spirit.  Many of us are barely able to get through Thanksgiving without its looming mention.  Yes, it’s a great way to drive business for those big name stores who can offer deep discounts, but this year we get to be part of a day with a much, less threatening title.  Small Business Saturday. Small Business Saturday. Doesn’t it sound sweet and soft and inviting?  Doesn’t it just make you want to run to all those quaint and welcoming shops in town?

Use your American Express Credit Card at any of the qualifying small businesses (we’re one of them!) and receive a $25 rebate from American Express.  You can enroll your card here and check out the list of businesses that are participating in your town.

Enjoy your shopping weekend and make sure to stop in to support local and small business on Saturday, November 24th.  We promise a more personal experience and snacks too. :-)

10 Fun Facts

Over the years many unique things about our company have gone on without mention.  Not for any specific reason but maybe just for the simple fact that things get busy and frankly, often forgotten.  So today I thought it would be fun to let you in on a few fun and most likely unknown facts about green 3.

1)  Jim and Sandy Martin are married business partners and the owners of green 3.

2)  We will use three to four thousands holiday sweaters for our Christmas Sweater Skirt this season.

3)  We ship to over 1,000 speciality stores nationwide.

4)  The number 3 in green 3, stands for Jim, Sandy and their daughter Rachael.

5)  Our catalog model writes our blogs and newsletters.

6)  We will use roughly, 35,000 ties this season to produce our Tie Wrap Skirt.

7)  Our most popular item is the Santa Double-Up Tee.

8)   In addition to specialty stores, we also sell to many museums.  Including the Museum of Folk Art in Manhattan, the JFK Presidential Museum, and the Art Museums in Philadelphia, Houston, and Seattle.

9)  Our first catalog or brochure, as we called it then, was made up of only one page.  The images were hand drawn t-shirts and all of them were white.

10)  Our first office was just one room in an old, closed department store.  We now occupy 18,0000 square feet of space.

Fabric Sale (company store)

Our store was buzzing with business this past Saturday.  In conjunction with the Carl Traeger Craft Sale we held our first fabric sale.  In early 2012, we purchased fabric from a high-end women’s apparel company that had previously gone out of business (check out the full story here).  We’ve been able to incorporate many of these fabrics into our spring and fall lines, but have also been left with many remnant roles that we hate to see go to waste.

It’s worth noting that along with the fabric we are selling zippers that we are unable to use as well.  Zippers of almost every color are available for a mere $.50.  If you stop in during normal business hours (Monday-Friday 10am-5pm) you can still purchase either of these items.

1 Skirt, 3 Ways

If you’re like me, being able to wear an item several different ways is key when buying something new.  Today I wanted to show you our Woven Panel Short Skirt, styled in three totally different ways.  We’ve used green 3 items and several wardrobe staples that can be found in just about anyone’s closet.

Our first look is for a casual day look.  We added our Butterfly Double-Up Tee and Wool Bucket Bag to make a casual and yet complete green 3 look.

Day Look

Our second look would be perfect for the office.  We added a classic white button down shirt to our panel skirt and accessorized it with a thick black belt, our woven bucket bag, red shoes, and our red knit rope scarf.

Office Look

Our last look would be great for a night out on the town!  We tucked this classic long-sleeved black shirt into the waist line of our panel skirt and cinched it at the waist with a skinny black belt.  Paired with knee-high black boots and an eye-catching necklace (on sale!) from Fair Indigo, you’ll be set to enjoy an evening away.

Date Night Look

We love how versatile our panel skirt can be.  How would you style this skirt?  Which look is your favorite look?

green 3 In The Garden; Tomatoes

This will probably be our last post with the word garden in it (for a while anyway) since the days and trees are starting to turn to autumn.  So today I wanted to share one last garden inspired recipe with you all.  Since I still have tomatoes ripening in my garden, I decided to whip up a quick side for our dinner the other night.   I didn’t measure out a thing for this one but combined the following ingredients:

Garden fresh tomatoes.

Mozzarella, balsamic vinegar, Tuscan herb olive oil and basil

The Tuscan herb olive oil I picked up is from here.  The blend of flavor is really nice and light, which makes it versatile for use in numerous meals.  Even over a simple salad like this, it adds just the right amount of flavor.  If you still have tomatoes in the garden I would consider giving this very simple recipe a shot.  Enjoy!

Customized Letterman Sweater

If you’ve received an Uncommon Goods catalog in the past few weeks, you may remember seeing this Customized Letterman Sweater. This item is only available through Uncommon Goods but there are a few other businesses involved (including us).  Like our tagline says “Every Garment Tells a Story”.

This story begins with our original partnership with Ripon Athletic.  A few years ago, through a network of friends, it came to our attention that Ripon Athletic was a bit slower during the fall season (when football season was underway and baseball uniform production was yet to begin). We asked if they’d be interested in helping us sew our sock monkey mittens during that time. They accepted and it really helped both of our companies to have that arrangement.  A year later, Uncommon Goods came to us, asking for a spring skirt that had an athletic feel, we knew just the people to help us fulfill that request.

As our relationship with Ripon Athletic continued we were thrilled to find out that they were the owners of the authentic Sand Knit label.   It could be found on athletic uniforms, apparel, and letterman jackets.  Items with that label were considered to be vintage by many, as it hadn’t been in production for years. Uncommon Goods and Ripon Athletic are now producing a Customized Letterman Sweater with the authentic Sand Knit label.   We are proud to be in business with both of these amazing companies and happy to have been a key stepping stone for their partnership.

But let’s be honest, the best part of this sweater is that your main squeeze can wear it to all of your games!
